Houston Texans Sign Guard Wyatt Teller to Two Year Deal

About This Event

The last time the Houston Texans, as a franchise, had a respectable offensive line, a line that fans felt could be the foundation for a Super Bowl contender, probably predates the Bill O’Brien Era. I’d say the latter portion of the Gary Kubiak Era, when names like Duane Brown, Wade Smith, and Chris Myers were attending Pro Bowls is the last time we felt GREAT about the guys up front. That’s far too many running backs stuffed in the backfield. That’s far too many quarterbacks getting drilled in the pocket on Sundays. That’s flat out too long, for an organization that’s actually done its fair share of winning in the last decade, to fully address the offensive line. I have no idea if the moves Texans GM Nick Caserio is making this offseason are going to give us a group of five up front that carries the franchise to glory, but at least the effort appears to be there. I say this because on Tuesday afternoon, the Texans made their next big swing at offensive line help, with the signing of former Cleveland Pro Bowls guard Wyatt Teller: The #Texans have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with G Wyatt Teller, sources tell me and @RapSheet. A three-time Pro Bowler with the #Browns, Teller finds a new home in Houston. pic.twitter.com/h5yWgJwlzl— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 17, 2026 Honestly, I figured after the signing of guard Evan Brown, over the weekend, to a one-year, $3.5 million deal, that Caserio might be done in free agency, and begin looking at the draft for the next few new faces on the offensive line. I’m happy to be wrong! Here are a few more thoughts on this signing: The Texans are walking the walk when it comes to addressing needs When DeMeco Ryans was at the combine, he did an interview with the NFL Network and was asked an open ended questions about the Texans’ needs. He immediately offered up his desire for improvement on the offensive line and at running back. In the first ten days or so of the offseason, Nick Caserio promptly traded for running back David Montgomery, and conducted a massive shuffle along the offensive line, shipping out Tytus Howard, re-signing Ed Ingram, and signing Brown, Teller, and tackle/guard Braden Smith to reasonable contracts. Smith and Teller were signed for a combined amount that approximately matches what the Browns are paying Howard, and I think BOTH might be better players than Howard. Teller fits the mold of what a current day Houston Texan should look like If there is one theme for this offseason, and honestly a recurring theme for any Texans transaction, it’s the desire to upgrade the physicality if the team. It’s hard for this team to become more physical on defense, but on offense, there was definitely still an identity crisis in 2025. The signings of Smith and Teller signal a change. Teller is a physical brute in the run game, which is the facet of OC Nick Caley’s offense that must be addressed, even above whatever C.J. Stroud was dealing with in the playoffs. An improved run game will be Stroud’s best friend in 2026. Teller plays into that heavily. This signing opens up all sorts of possibilities in the draft next month The Texans head into the 2026 NFL Draft with as much draft capital as they’ve had since the 2023 draft, where they drafted Stroud and Will Anderson. They currently have the 28th, 38th (thank you, Laremy Tunsil!), 59th, and 69th picks in the draft. If they hadn’t signed Teller, I’d have almost called it a necessity to draft an interior offensive lineman with either the 28th or 38th pick. Now, I feel like the Texans have the entire array of players available to them, which means that attacking the interior of the defensive line or the offensive weapon categories is totally in play.
